1 MARCH 2010 IMMEDIATE RELEASE SNP VANITY PROJECT A “DANGEROUS DISTRACTION”
Dumfries MSP Elaine Murray has described the SNP’s publication of another draft Referendum Bill last week as nothing more than an SNP “vanity project”.
She says that the SNP should be focused on jobs, the economy and housing in Dumfries and Galloway rather than planning to split up the UK.
Elaine Murray MSP said: “This is nothing more than another consultation exercise for the SNP’s vanity project.
“It does nothing to help the people of Dumfries and Galloway. At a time when SNP budget cuts mean teachers in the region are losing their jobs and our housing projects are in jeopardy, people will be appalled the SNP continue to plough yet more money into planning for separation. We’ve just emerged from recession and yet the SNP are more interested in their own political obsession.
“The SNP simply refuse to accept that the majority of people in Scotland don’t want separation. The idea of spending money putting up barriers between us and Carlisle seems especially ludicrous here in Dumfries and Galloway. It’s a dangerous distraction. The SNP need to focus on the economy, jobs and housing rather than spending taxpayers’ money on ripping the UK apart.” ENDS CONTACT - ANDREW MACKENZIE 07769206856
