MURRAY HOPES CAMERON WILL "KNOCK HEADS TOGETHER" IN TORY COUNCIL

Commenting on the news that David Cameron, Leader of the Conservative Party, will be visiting Dumfries tomorrow (17 December), the local MSP Elaine Murray said:

“While I’m sure the people of Dumfries will give David Cameron a traditionally warm Scottish welcome, I do question his motives. If he had really wanted to offer his assistance he wouldn’t have waited nearly a month to visit.

“The people of Dumfries have been through hell with flooding and I really hope Mr Cameron simply isn’t coming for a photo opportunity with the Tory election candidate next to the River Nith.

“I also hope David Cameron might be able to knock a few heads together within the Tory Administration of Dumfries and Galloway Council, whose hopelessly inadequate response to the flooding made a terrible situation even worse. There was a leadership vacuum and a lack of information to residents and businesses to assist with the clear up. The Council agreed to start designing a flood prevention scheme in 2007 but we’ve yet to see anyone lift a finger and as a consequence a solution to flooding on the Whitesands is still years away.”
